CYCD Annual Report 2023-2024

BYL Annual Report 2023-24 V 1.6-Final

We are committed to being an organisation which is at the heart of the community and where all are valued and respected.

Our vision is to ensure most disadvantaged & marginalised residents of Luton and in particular those from the Biscot Beech Hill, Dallow & Saints Wards,  have access to the services and support they need, at the level they need and which is timely. We are committed to working in partnership with others to ensure the best use of resources for the benefit of the community we serve.

About Us

Bangladesh Youth League was established in 1979 and registered as a charity with the Charity Commission on 26th May 2005.  In 2001, Bangladesh Youth League acquired its own premises as the base for its work called Centre for Youth & Community Development (CYCD).

The CYCD has grown and developed over the years and currently through CYCD, we provide cradle-to-grave services that respond to the evolving needs of our communities informed by regular timely consultation with our users and partners, including:

  • Early Years: Little Stars Pre-School for children aged 1–4.
  • Youth Provision: Generic and focused weekly youth clubs, outreach / detached youth work, Holiday play-schemes, Bangla school,  supplementary school, mentoring, and our flagship Crescent Summer School.
  • SEND Support: Our Access Disability Project (ADP) serves weekly short break provision for disabled children and young adults aged 6–25, including during school holidays.
  • Women’s Services: Women Empowerment, breaking silence, Focused on ESOL, employability, digital literacy, and wellbeing.
  • Primary Victim Support Provision: For Honor Based Abuse, Forced Marriage, and facilitating support for victims of Female Genital Mutilation
  • Older People’s Wellbeing: Weekly health and wellbeing clubs for isolated South Asian elders.
  • Advice & Welfare: In partnership with Luton Rights and the Bangladesh High Commission, supporting benefits, housing, and immigration issues.

All programmes are designed and regularly shaped by community consultation and feedback

CYCD’s core objectives and intended outcome are:

Objectives

Intended Outcome

  • Advance education, training and skills for disadvantaged young people and adults.

  Increased educational attainment and employability

Young people and adults will gain qualifications, skills, and confidence that improve their access to further learning, training, or sustainable employment.

  • Promote social inclusion, particularly among disadvantaged and marginalised communities.

  Reduced isolation and stronger community engagement

Marginalised individuals and communities will feel more connected, valued, and included in civic life and community networks.

  • Improve health and wellbeing through inclusive services and targeted interventions.

  Improved physical and mental health

Participants will experience enhanced wellbeing through access to preventative health activities, mental health support, and inclusive, culturally sensitive services.

  • Empower communities by building local leadership, volunteering, and participation.

  Greater community leadership and resilience

Local people, especially young people and women, will take on leadership roles, volunteer actively, and become change-makers within their communities.

  • Support children, families, and older people with responsive, culturally appropriate provision.

  Better support for vulnerable children, families, and older adults

Families will be more stable and supported, older people will feel less isolated, and children will have access to safe, enriching environments for learning and growth.

  • Foster partnerships that strengthen social cohesion and maximise resources.

  Enhanced collaboration and resource-sharing across sectors

Stronger partnerships will lead to more efficient services, shared expertise, and joined-up responses to local needs.

These objectives underpin all our programmes and help us deliver long-term, sustainable outcomes for the communities we serve.
