Access Disability Project (ADP)

Access Disability Project (ADP) is a series of weekly (Term-Time) and school holiday clubs for children and young people from age 6 through to 25 years. 

Access Disability Project, based at Centre for Youth & Community Development (CYCD) in Luton is part of a Consortium of projects, led by Autism Bedfordshire, providing short-breaks for parents & carers of children & young people with disabilities and additional needs.

ADP is committed to providing services with demonstrate our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion;  We are open to children and young people from all communities and all nationalities. 

Access Disability Project aims to change the negative attitudes towards disability and special needs in society by focusing on each child’s abilities, skills and talents by giving them opportunities to develop to their full potential and by demonstrating that each child is valued and respected as they are.  We aim to provide a safe, nurturing and supportive space for you child.  

Safeguarding:

All of our staff, volunteers and facilitators undergo Disclosure and Barring Service checks.  We have policies and procedures in place to safeguard and protect your child while they are with us.

Luton Short Breaks Consortium:

The Short Breaks Consortium is a group of Voluntary Community organisations funded by London Luton Airport Ltd and led by Autism Bedfordshire.  An aim of the project is to provide a short breaks service to parents and carers by providing meaningful activity for children and young people with a disability or additional needs.

 

What Happens At The Clubs

In the weekly sessions the children and young people have an opportunity to do a range of activities including board games, arts & crafts, watching films, playing computer games & play-station, using the internet, and playing outdoor games such as football, cricket, basketball.  The clubs create the opportunity for children to make new friends.

For parents and carers, the clubs sessions provide a valued short-break each week and during the school holidays.

In addition to the normal weekly sessions the project also holiday play-schemes during February, Easter, May, Summer, October & December. This provision is a mixture of daytime and evening activities including trips to various educational, recreational and adventure centre.

Next Steps

Please complete the Initial Registration Form, which will help us to explore your child’s needs and if our club is suitable to meeting those needs;  if we feel we cannot offer the support your child needs we will discuss alternatives with you.  Once you have completed the Initial Registration Form, please make an appointment with our ADP Co-ordinator (contact details below). 

Wherever possible we try and provide safe transport for the children to the Centre & their return home.  The availability of the transport is dependent on spaces on our mini-bus.  We will discuss this with you at the induction meeting.

The charge for each child at each session is £5 and we will discuss payment arrangements at the initial meeting.
