Historical Overview: There was an immense gap in provision for young people in Bury Park area of Luton in early 1990 during the school holiday periods, particularly the long summer holiday. BYL pioneered an idea to develop provision during the summer holiday. In 1990 the first summer activities initiated and co-ordinated by BYL. BYL retained the involvement, in an advisory capacity, of almost all predecessors. This ensured continuity and sustained from the Past. The summer activities are now branded as Crescent Summer School (CSSP).
Crescent Summer School CIC (CSSP) is an independent community interest company. set up by young people. CSPP became a CIC with charitable aims in November 2019. We have our own management committee which is made up of 2/3rds young people under the age of 18. We are a grass roots, volunteer led organisation and we believe this is a key strength.
Our vision is to empower and inspire young people to enable them to become resilient, confident and motivated to achieve their goals.

Our Aim
Our aim is to help young people aged between 9 – 18 years from Biscot, Beech Hill, Dallow and Saints which are most deprived wards of Luton during the school holidays to develop their physical, mental and capacities that may develop them into mature individuals and active members of society. However, the programme is inclusive and open to all young people.
We run holiday clubs over 3 weeks each summer and 1 week in October, December, February, Easter and May.
CSSP deliver a structured programme across 8 weeks during school holidays. The programme offer a diverse mix of creative arts, team-building, sports, and issue-based workshops, designed to build confidence, leadership, and social skills, while raising awareness of issues such as personal safety and mental health. A key focus will be addressing the lasting mental health challenges from the pandemic, fostering resilience and emotional well-being.
This project builds on our established youth programmes, tackling key issues such as social isolation, knife crime, mental health, the cost of living, and the impact of COVID-19
Each year we recruit, train and support young people aged 16-18 years as volunteers and young volunteers have the opportunity to work towards the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and AQA certificate in volunteering. This young volunteers is also assist in planning, delivering and evaluating the activities throughout the year.
The project is funded by the various funding bodies which included Energise Luton, Sports England, Bedfordshire & Luton Community Foundation, UK Youth, Awards For All, Postcode Lottery & Wixamtree Trust.
CSSP is an initiative of the Bangladesh Youth League (BYL) Luton which operates as CYCD.
