Day Centre
CYCD Day Centre
At CYCD Day Centre we work with young adults with learning difficulties, learning disabilities and autism aged between 19 and 35. Our goals are:
- To support our young adults to live life as independently as possible by developing life skills such as cooking, cleaning and through increased community interaction.
- To enable our young adults to have an active and engaging social life through encouraging social interaction with their peers. We believe our staff should act as role models by seeking interaction as much as is appropriate.
- To help our young adults realise their potential and discover new passions and interests by providing flexible support that allows them to make their own choices of activities and set their own goals.
- To promote a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle by providing information about healthy, balanced diets and encouraging them to participate in regular physical activity.
We work towards achieving these goals in a variety of different ways; through our life skills programme, holiday support, buddy support and a variety of clubs.
Core Values
All the services offered at CYCD Day Centre are founded upon our core values and these values guide the delivery of each service.
Meaningfulness
CYCD believes that all people should have a purpose in their life. We are committed to enabling the young adults to discover their potential in all areas of their life.
Respect
CYCD respects everyone's individuality and provides flexible support to meet their individual needs. We encourage the young adults to make their own choices that reflect their goals and wishes.
Part of the CYCD family
CYCD has a family feel allowing for a safe, welcoming environment for individuals to express their opinions, speak their mind and be themselves.
Being Part of a Community
CYCD encourages our young adults to play an active role in both their own local community and the wider learning disability community.
Pushing the Boundaries
CYCD believes you cannot develop yourself without trying new things. We believe with the right support in place we can help our young adults to have new experiences and exceed their own expectations.
Individuals
As we meet the needs of a wide variety of people, we carry out individual assessments so that we can understand how to best provide support.
We expect our young adults to:
- Be open minded and willing to give things a try
- Be respectful of others
- Be committed to attending on a regular basis
- Work with us to achieve their goals
Personal Development/Life Skills Programme
Our life skills programme features 1 or 2 groups based at our site. Each group is designed to cater for different needs and abilities. Our assessment process helps direct the young adult to the group best suited to allow them to reach their full potential.
Our programme is based around taking part in meaningful activities which create a balance between learning vocational skills, enjoying a healthy lifestyle and meaningful and rewarding social interaction.
We focus our sessions around 6 main areas:
- Active
- Creative
- Technology
- Life Skills
- Vocational
- Sensory
Each of these has a wide variety of activities so that there is something for everyone to enjoy!
We harness the skills of our staff members to deliver these varies sessions and are always on the lookout for exciting activities to offer our young adults.
Active Sessions
We believe that exercise forms an important part of a healthy lifestyle and we encourage our young adults to be as active as possible. Our active sessions are designed to enable the participation of all young adults regardless of ability.
